These past few weeks have been unpredictable and unprecedented.

We’ve taken into account the current factors and data, and we’ve made the difficult decision with the health and safety of everyone involved in mind to postpone our 2nd annual Step Beyond Celiac 5K in Philadelphia until the fall. We are working with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the many other organizations that help make our Philadelphia event a success to bring you a new date, so stay tuned.

We have been looking forward to sharing the day with our community and we know you want to get out there and run. But, as always, our top priority is the health and well-being of our participants, volunteers, staff, communities and event attendees.

We share in your disappointment that the race will not occur this May but are hopeful you will be able to join us once we have a new date. Along with a new date, we will provide options to give you the flexibility to run and celebrate with us!

When you registered for our event, you made an investment in your health. Stay positive and keep on running.

Last week we began introducing our team on social media and encouraging you to get outside and move. We’ll continue doing so in the weeks to come and we encourage you to post on the Step Beyond Celiac 5K Facebook and Instagram pages as well. Share your ongoing commitment to health and wellness with us. Continue to Step Beyond Celiac with me! Through social sharing, we will remain connected even in the face of social distancing.

If you have any questions, we’d love to hear from you. Email us at step@beyondceliac.org. We will respond to everyone. We strive to be a good community partner, and now is a time we all need to work together as a community to get through this.

We are all in this together, running together for a cure!
Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and support.

Be well,

Suzanne Allaire
Director of National Programs & Volunteer Engagement
Step Beyond Celiac 5K

Our top priority is the health and well-being of our participants, volunteers, staff, communities and event attendees.

In Pennsylvania, the Wolf Administration is strongly encouraging the suspension of large gatherings, events, conferences of more than 10 people, and per White House guidelines, asks that individuals and groups cancel any gatherings planned over the next eight weeks.

While the likelihood is decreasing that we will be able to hold our SBC5K in Philadelphia this May, we are remaining optimistic. We are hopeful the drastic measures being put in place will have a positive and aggressive impact at reducing the spread of the virus in April, and that things will start to return to normal by the middle of May.

Our participant’s safety is always our first priority.  We are working hard to be sure, whatever the outcome, you’ll get the best experience we can make possible. We are currently planning for contingencies in the case we cannot hold the event.

We are aware everyone wants to know what the contingencies are, and we promise an update in the coming days. Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding.

Please remain optimistic and reach out to your friends, family, and neighbors to see if they need any help. We are all in this together, and together we will get through it.

With over 1,000 participants and nearly 70 volunteers, we had an amazing turnout for the first of many years of this awesome event! Thank you to the greater Philadelphia celiac disease community for joining us, giving your time and effort, and, most importantly, for helping to raise money to support Step Beyond Celiac!
